Post Christmas Sales Predictions

Peak retail industry body the Australian Retailers Association (ARA) said shoppers were expected to spend $6.77 billion during the two weeks of post Christmas sales from Boxing Day (26/12) through to early January, which is up four percent on 2008/09.
ARA Executive Director Russell Zimmerman said the expected post-Christmas retail sales in each state and territory to be:
(Post Christmas Sale items only (not including food, restaurants and cafes)

NSW $2.15 billion $2.05 billion
VIC $1.67 billion $1.6 billion
QLD $1.35 billion $1.3 billion
WA $783 million $753 million
SA $472 million $454 million
TAS $149 million $143 million
ACT $128 million $123 million
NT $69 million $65 million
Total $6.77 billion $6.5billion
Crowds are always expected when consumers head to the shops for post-Christmas day bargains, but this years savvy shoppers will include the 8.6 percent of consumers who will finalise their Christmas shopping during the Boxing Day sales period.
Its easy for shoppers to be excited and overwhelmed during post-Christmas sales but we are advising consumers to keep their cool when bargain hunting and to spend responsibly and within their limits, Zimmerman said.
