Holden legends Craig Lowndes and Mark Skaife have won the 2010 Bathurst 1000 V8 Supercar race at Mt Panorama.

TeamVodafone took out the 1000 km endurance classic at the iconic 6.2km circuit ahead of stablemates Jamie Whincup and Steve Owen in the first one-two team finish since 1984.

Defending champion Garth Tander was third for Holden Racing Team with partner Cameron McConville to complete a Holden sweep of the podium.

The win came on the back of a tremendous 79-lap stint by the now five-time Bathurst champion, while the victory is Skaife's sixth at the famous track.

There was heartbreak though for Tander's HRT teammate Will Davison, who was in third place when he hit the wall and crashed out with just eight laps remaining.

Pole-sitter Mark Winterbottom also saw his Bathurst dream disappear when co-driver Luke Youlden clipped a wall at the sharp left hand corner of ''The Cutting'', the Ford Performance Racing team eventually finishing ninth.

Garry Rogers Motorsport duo Lee Holdsworth and David Besnard were the race's early leaders, Besnard spending a thrilling 30-lap period trying to hold off Lowndes.

But the Holden pair's hopes of an unlikely win were dashed due to a drive-through penalty when Besnard exceeded the speed limit coming onto pitlane and the team finished seventh.

Ford driver James Courtney came in fifth to be the highest-placed Falcon, just behind Holden's Jason Bright.

A kangaroo and a sickening highspeed rollover provided two dramatic near-misses in the early stages of today's Bathurst 1000. Garth Tander showed why he is one of the nation's most skilful drivers when he avoided a kangaroo which jumped in front of his Toll Holden Racing Team Commodore as he passed through The Cutting on Mt Panorama.

Just minutes after the start, Fabian Coulthard admitted he was lucky to walk away from his 295 km/h rollover crash, caused after a tyre valve worth $1.20 was damaged.

The smash happened on the first lap when a faulty left rear wheel caused Coulthard to lose control of his Bundabberg Red Commodore, which slid sideways into a gravel section then rolled at least six times, completely destroying the car.

Garry Dickeson of AA Family Motors, a used car dealer said after the Holden clean sweep, that he expected a lot of interest in the range of Holden used cars that he has in stock.

"Win a race on Sunday, and sell a car on Monday" has been the pattern throughout the years. You can buy a used car Australia wide from AA Family Motors, and there are plenty of used Commodore to choose from, including the range of Holden HSV Clubsport we have.
